Main Gate Locked for Winter

The main gate is now closed and locked for the winter.  

For the time being you can still access the road through the winter gate, but do so at your own risk! Some vehicles have been getting stuck on the upper roads.

Bear Sighting

A bear was spotted crossing the road near lot 127. A reminder not to leave garbage, birdfeeders, birdseed, or unattended food outside of your cabin.

Fall Membership Meeting

Summit County Fires

Fire danger is high this year. What appears to be a lighting-strike fire near Wanship has destroyed at least 15 structures and 1,500 acres in just a few hours. These are our neighbors, just about 10 miles west (as the crow flies) of Canyon Rim Ranches.

Please be extremely cautious!

If you haven't already done so, please make sure there is a defensible space around any structure on your property. This means removing any ladder fuels within 30 feet of your cabin.

A Great Day for a Picnic!

Thanks to all who attended the annual Spring Clean Up and Potluck.

With over 60 people out working on various projects, we got a lot accomplished in a short time.

Weather was perfect for the potluck picnic and renewing old friendships. Thanks Stephanie for being such a great host!

See you all again next year!

Chipper

The chipper will be up to CRR on Monday, June 10th. 

Please take time on Saturday (Clean Up & Potluck Day) to pile all your wood near the road. 

Due to insurance issues, only the trained chippers can be within 30 feet of the chipper, so you are off the hook on Monday. 

Remember to be proactive against fires this season; cut down dead trees and clear the underbrush close to your structures.

Potluck and Clean Up!

Our Spring work party is scheduled for this Saturday, June 8th.  

Gather in the parking lot at 8:30 AM for a snack and short meeting.  We'll start work at 9:00 AM.  

Please bring along a tool or two to assist with the type of work you'd like to do.  

Some of the projects we have lined up this year include 

• trimming the brush back from the road (bring pruning sheers), 
• painting the bridges with preservative (brushes provided but bring brooms, flat shovel, dust pan, etc), 
• additional painting projects,  
• cleaning rocks and debris out of culverts along the roads throughout CRR (bring shovels and 4-wheelers), 
• general trash clean-up along roads,
• and more.

The pulled pork and potluck lunch will be at lot 129 at 12:30 PM.  Thanks Stephanie!
The Association will provide pulled pork sandwiches, hot dogs and soft drinks.  Please bring a dish to share and chairs.

Summit County Chipper

We will have the wood chipper on site Monday, June 10th, and again on Monday, August 26th. Any help on either of these days will be greatly appreciated!

Summit County is operating the chippers only on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays this year. Thanks to Kathleen G, we were able to get first choice on the dates. Sorry we couldn't stay with them on the clean up date.

We anticipate high fire danger this summer; so please clean the dead wood and trees of your lots. When stacking wood, please have all the big ends facing the same way (preferably down hill).

Trailers, Chippers, & Potluck

All trailers should be removed from the parking lot by the end of this week.

We plan to have the wood chipper on site for our Clean Up Day on June 8th.  

 

Before the shrubs start to grow (like right now!), is the perfect time to remove dead wood from your lots and stack it on the side of the road for the chipper. We hope to have the chipper again near the end of summer, but once the shrubs grow you'll have to work twice as hard to drag old wood to the road! 

Finally, if you can host the Clean Up Day potluck lunch, please contact Bill Bowen.  CRRA will provide the pulled pork, you just need to provide a place for us to picnic.

It's Spring!

The electronic gate is open and the roads are mostly snow free!

Road, Trailers, & Work Day

The roads are not quite ready for regular vehicle traffic, as the upper loop is still about 50% covered with snow and pretty muddy in other areas.  If the weather stays warm and dry, we hope to open the gate and roads the first weekend of May.  For now, 4-wheelers are your best bet.

Trailers should be out of the parking lot by April 30. If you are taking your trailer up to your property, please move it up as soon as the road is passable.  Hopefully, we will be able to move the remaining trailers out in the next two weeks.
